Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan conveyed some unfortunate news during his address at the annual policy conference of the Republican National Lawyers Association.
During the event held on Friday, he recounted the incident of ICE recently saving a pregnant 14-year-old girl who had been a victim of trafficking, as reported by The Daily Caller.
“We just discovered one two days ago. A 14-year-old young girl. Residing with two adult males. Who had trafficked her,” he stated.
“We located her; she is expecting a child. She was a victim of trafficking and was coerced into prostitution. She is only 14 years old. We are providing her with care, both physically and mentally,” Homan stated.
“Contrary to what the media portrays, we are not devoid of compassion. We genuinely care for these children. I am a father myself,” he remarked.
“This abhorrent issue (human trafficking) occurs daily. We are determined to eradicate it. We will do everything within our power to combat it,” he asserted.
Since President Donald Trump has resumed his position at the White House, there has been a significant shift in the number of illegal immigrant encounters at the border.
A report issued by the Department of Homeland Security indicated a 93 percent reduction in daily encounters, a 95 percent decrease in ‘gotaways’—individuals who successfully entered without detection—and an astonishing 99.99% decline in illegal migrant crossings.
In April, during an early morning press briefing at the White House, Homan stated his belief that there are at least 20 million undocumented immigrants in the country, which includes approximately 700,000 individuals with criminal charges “walking the streets.”
“I began my career in the Border Patrol in 1984. I have dedicated over 40 years to this work. I have served under six presidents, starting with Ronald Reagan. Every president I have worked with has taken border security seriously because national security cannot be ensured without robust border security. We need to be aware of who is entering, what is being brought in, where it is coming from, and why it is entering, correct?” Homan remarked.
“Even President Obama and President Clinton took measures to secure the border because they recognized the significance of national security. Joe Biden is the first president in this nation’s history to enter office and intentionally compromise border security. That is simply a fact. After President Trump’s first term, we provided the Biden Administration with the most secure border I have ever seen in my lifetime, and he intentionally compromised it,” he continued.
Homan stated, “Currently, President Trump and this administration have achieved unprecedented success. We have surpassed the achievements of Trump’s first administration regarding border security. The statistics indicate that border conditions are at an all-time high. As I stand here today, we can assert that we possess the most secure border in the history of this country. The data supports this claim.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also revealed earlier this month that Trump’s administration is in “the initial phases of executing the largest deportation initiative in American history.”
“Today, we are commencing a 100-day period focused on the president’s groundbreaking initiative to secure our southern border. Later today, President Trump will enact an executive order concerning law and order, as well as another executive order addressing sanctuary cities,” Leavitt stated.
“The first executive order will enhance and empower America’s law enforcement agencies to pursue criminals and safeguard innocent citizens. The second executive order will focus on protecting American communities from criminal aliens, directing the attorney general and the secretary of Homeland Security to compile a list of state and local jurisdictions that hinder the enforcement of federal immigration laws,” she continued.
“Once these orders are signed, the president will have enacted over 140 executive orders, nearing the total number signed by the Biden Administration throughout its four-year term,” she concluded.
